Legislative & Public Affairs

Legislative staff lobbies on behalf of the City to the Oregon Legislature, coordinates preparation of legislative priorities, and partners with other local governmental entities in developing and presenting the federal priorities of metro area governments. This work ensures Springfield’s interests are represented in state and national discussions. Staff also supports the Springfield Mayor and City Council.

Public Affairs staff is responsible for media relations, community outreach and involvement, social media, and community relations. We value our community and work hard to connect residents and guests to the information, services, and activities they seek. Learn more about what the City is up to in our updated Newsroom.

Springfield’s Legislative Committee
The Council’s Legislative Committee is established to consider and make recommendations on legislative issues. During the State of Oregon’s legislative session, this committee reviews bills introduced in the Legislature. The committee also serves as the council review point for grant funds prepared by the City, and works on developmental concepts for the federal and state legislative priorities.

The committee is composed of three members of the City Council who are appointed annually by the Mayor. Currently the members are Committee Chair Sean VanGordon, Marilee Woodrow and Hilary Wylie.
